The word ‘ecology’ comes from the Greek oikos, meaning ‘household’, ‘home’ or ‘place to live’. Coming to know the natural world around you wherever you are is a kind of homecoming, as you learn to create relationships with the beings around you, not only to know them, but also to be known by them. This series explores our natural environment, both outdoors and in domestic spaces. In order for us to appreciate the outdoor world, we must look at and learn about our personal connections with it - with the trees, plants, rocks, insects and animals that live alongside us.
